These used consoles have been updated to provide full-featured MIDI output for connecting to a virtual organ system such as Hauptwerk, GrandOrgue, and others.
  • All controls on the console output MIDI data via USB
  • Analog electronics are removed (to reduce weight) when possible
  • Price is for console/pedals/bench only
  • You provide the VPO system (computer, software, audio interface, audio system)--please see further information below

More information about our MIDI consoles

As noted above, these are pre-owned Rodgers analog organs that have been retrofitted with a new CPU that outputs MIDI data for all the controls.  The console is ONLY a MIDI controller, meaning that all the controls (keys, pedals, pistons, tabs, expression) output unique MIDI codes.

To create a playable organ you will need to supply the following equipment:
  • PC or Mac computer
  • Audio output interface
  • External audio system consisting of amplifier(s) and speakers OR powered speakers (self-contained amps).  Note that the console does NOT have internal speakers.
  • Virtual pipe organ (VPO) software of your choice.  Hauptwerk is the probably the most used software, but there are others.
  • Sample set of your choice (free or purchased) for the VPO you are using--click here for a directory of Hauptwerk sample sets

Setting up the system will involve:
  • Connecting the MIDI console to the PC/Mac computer with a USB cable
  • Connecting the PC to the audio output interface
  • Connecting the the audio output interface to the amplifier(s) or power speakers
  • If using passive speakers with an amplifier, connect the amplifier to the speakers

With the sample set installed on the PC, you then "map" every control on the console to a function in Hauptwerk.  HW has a simple process for accomplishing this where you follow a specific sequence to exercising the each control and HW detects what the MIDI codes are.  This is how Hauptwerk "learns" what function to perform for the MIDI code generated by each console control.....keys, pedals, expression, etc.  Most of the controls will have a "standard" function, i.e., keys play notes, expression shoes express (control volume), couplers couple, etc.  The pistons are an interesting exception--they can be mapped to perform any desired function, including functioning as stops in addition to the draw knob/tab stop controls.  For instance, if you don't use divisional combinations, you can make the "divisional" pistons be additional generals, so instead of ten generals you could have 20 generals.

To budget a complete system, you need to determine the cost of the PC/Mac, audio interface, external audio system, VPO software and sample set.  Then add the cost of the MIDI console, plus shipping/delivery and applicable sales tax.

Please note that Church Keyboard does not provide customer or technical support for customer-assembled VPO systems.  If you will require some level of support, we recommend finding a local consultant/technician to provide the support you need.
